F Scott Fitzgerald made pearls with a bathing suit a thing in Tender Is the Night with the beautiful character Nicole Diver on the beach in the South of France. My husband’s great grandmother was known for her diamond and pearl dog collar she wore always to the San Francisco Opera opening. How I wish I had that now but somewhere through the ages it was sold or stolen and is only seen in old newspaper clippings.
Are they making a comeback? Classic and elegant- they are my new trademark – worn with t-shirts and everything else.
Pearls have long symbolized sophistication, and their versatility makes them perfect for both casual and formal attire. From the red carpet to everyday wear, these timeless accessories can elevate any outfit. Recently, fashion icons have been spotted embracing pearls in innovative ways, pairing them with denim jackets or layered over casual tees.
The resurgence of vintage styles has also contributed to their comeback. Designers are drawing inspiration from past decades, incorporating pearls into contemporary jewelry designs that appeal to modern sensibilities. Whether it’s long strands draped casually or chunky pearl earrings, these pieces exude a fresh yet nostalgic charm.
As I explore this trend, I find myself inspired to curate a collection of pearl accessories that reflect my personal style. Mixing classic pearl items with bold contemporary pieces can create an intriguing balance, perfect for making a statement. I can’t help but dream of how my husband’s great grandmother’s exquisite collar would seamlessly blend into this new era of pearl fashion—an embodiment of elegance with a touch of history.
